Deleting your account and data
Last updated:
This page says how to request deletion of a Handover account and the data held with it. Making the request needs neither the app nor a sign-in — an e-mail is enough.
How to make the request
Send an e-mail to hello@mcode.hr with the subject “Delete account”. Say in it:
- the e-mail address of the account to be deleted;
- the company name as it appears in the app;
- whether you want only your own access removed, or the whole company with all its records.
Send the request from the address you sign in with. If that is not possible we will ask for another way to confirm that the account is yours — an account is not deleted on the say-so of someone we could not verify.
Deleting the app from a phone deletes neither the account nor the data on the server. Only this request does that.
What gets deleted
- Access and sign-in
- The user account, and with it the sign-in e-mail address and password. After that, signing in is no longer possible.
- Guest data
- Names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, identity-document types and numbers, issuing countries and signature images, from every record belonging to that company.
- Records and photographs
- If you ask for the whole company to be deleted, the photographs, the PDF records and every link issued to a guest go too. The links stop working immediately.
- Subscription
- The subscription is cancelled. Invoices and payment records have to be kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires; those are records about the company, not about guests.
How long it takes
We confirm the request as soon as it reaches us, and complete the deletion within one month of confirming your identity at the latest. That is the deadline the General Data Protection Regulation sets.
If you do not want to delete everything
There is a middle step. The company settings hold a retention period: 24 months by default, and anywhere between 1 and 120 months.
When it expires, the guest’s personal details disappear from those records on their own — name, e-mail, phone, document and signature — while the photographs and the condition data stay as evidence that no longer points to anyone. The link the guest received expires at the same moment.
That clears the history without closing the account.
If you are a guest rather than an operator
If you rented a vehicle or a boat and a rental business entered your details into Handover, the business is who you need: it decided to collect that data and it is the controller. Ask them to delete it.
If they do not reply, or you do not know who to ask, write to us at hello@mcode.hr and give the name of the rental business, the date of the rental and which unit you hired. We will pass the request on and act on it as far as we are permitted to as a processor.
A guest has no Handover account, so for a guest there is no account to delete — what is deleted is what was recorded about them.
